Lee Brice: A Sensitive Macho Man

on

Lee Brice released his debut album, Love Like Crazy, in 2009. The title track went all the way #3 on the Billboard Country chart and set a record as the longest-charting song in that chart’s history. In 2012, he topped his own success with Hard 2 Love, an album that went Gold and featured three #1 singles, including the touching “I Drive Your Truck,” which won Song of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards. The record earned praise from critics and fans and Brice was dubbed the ‘sensitive macho man.’ The album also produced the #1 hits “A Woman Like You” and “Hard 2 Love, ” as well as the Top Ten hit “Parking Lot Party.”

The former lineman for Clemson has a sensitive side and it really comes out in his writing. “More Than A Memory” was a very personal song for me,” he says of his breakout 2007 track. “I was thinking about keeping it for myself when Garth Brooks called, and that changed the whole dynamic.”

The song changed a whole lot of things. Brooks’ recording of that track was the first single in the history of the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart to debut at #1. While another of his songs, Eli Young Band’s “Crazy Girl”, was the Billboard Year-End top country song of 2011. His list of songwriting credits includes too many names in country music with everyone from Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Craig Campbell to just name a few.

Lee’s stock went way up in Nashville pretty quick, and that same year, he signed with Curb Records and began laying the groundwork for his next step as a solo artist.

With his latest album, I Don’t Dance, Brice again hit the nail on the head with the title track.  The song “I Don’t Dance” became Brice’s fourth number one hit in August 2014. The album, which Brice produced, also included singles “Drinking Class” and “That Don’t Sound Like You” which were Top Ten hits.

Earlier this year Brice collaborated with Jerrod Niemann for “A Little More Love.” The song has a summertime groove feel and although it hasn’t skyrocketed up the charts the two singers seem to have a good time working together on the song and the video.

Lee Brice will be performing at the WGAR Country Jam on Saturday, August 6 at Black River Landing in Lorain, Ohio.
