Garth Brooks Gained Honor by Refusing an Award in 1996

on

Garth Brooks has left audiences amazed by his his shows, but when he refused to accept the favorite artist of the year award at the 23rd Annual American Music Awards he left the crowd stunned.

Brooks has won numerous awards, but on that night in 1996 he gained some honor from his peers and fans when he left the statue sitting on the podium and walked away.

“I cannot agree with this [award],” Brooks said from the podium, as the cheers from the crowd fell silent. “Without any disrespect for the American Music Awards and without any disrespect for the people who voted, for all the people who should be honored I’m gonna leave it right here.”

And that was the end of the show. Mic drop.
