Garth Brooks to host one night concert event at drive in theaters

on

One night, one big show and 300 drive in theaters. Those are the plans for Garth Brooks as he presents a one-night drive-in concert on June 27.

The reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year created the show exclusively for the theaters, a news release stated. Tickets to the rain-or-shine event cost $100 per car or truck and can be purchased starting June 19 at 10 EST via ticketmaster.com/garthbrooks. But, don’t think you can pile a dozen folks in the back of that pickup, each vehicle can only have the same number of occupants as seat belts.

Each broadcast location will adhere to local health guidelines, the news release also added. Participating theaters will be announced on June 15.

On Thursday, Brooks told “Good Morning America” viewers that each site should hold about 250 to 300 cars.

“They’re gonna run it just like a regular concert,” Brooks told “GMA” host Robin Roberts. “This is a reason to get out of the house, but at the same time you get to follow all the COVID rules for every individual state. You get to have fun and stay within the guidelines of social distancing.

“We’re calling it social distancing partying. This should be fun.”

Brooks’ event — billed as “the largest ever one-night show to play at outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada” — comes as socially distanced “drive-in” concerts continue to gain momentum this summer.

This weekend, country star Alan Jackson plays a pair of drive-in shows in rural Alabama that were rescheduled from last weekend due to weather concerns.
