Matt Gary – Indie Artist Looking for Success

on

Matt Gary started promoting his up-tempo country love song to radio earlier this year and has continued to grow his following while he gets ready to release his album which includes the song “It’s On You” later in 2016.

A country artist who likes to mix contemporary Nashville sounds with pop melodies and rock & roll energy, Gary was born in Lenexa, Kansas. He developed a love for music early in life and looks to singers like Tim McGraw and Keith Urban as major influences, while he also listened to pop artists such as Maroon 5 and John Mayer. While at the University of Tampa he started writing songs and after graduating he decided to move to Nashville and take his shot at a country music career. He struck up a working relationship with producer Kent Wells, and in 2009 released his first single, “The Days You Live For,” and followed that up with his EP, I’m Just Sayin’. He went on to start his own music label , 17 Music Entertainment and in 2012 released the single “City Lights,” and “Summertime” followed in 2014. In 2015, Gary teamed with producer Ilya Tishinskiy (who had previously worked as a session musician with Tim McGraw, Toby Keith and Luke Bryan) for another single, the pop-rock accented “It’s on You.”

At the 2016 ACM Awards, Gary talked about what it takes to be a successful independent artist, and said that watching artists like Chris Janson and LoCash find success in 2015 gave him even more drive to keep after it. “It shows the doors are opening,” he says. “Radio is opening up to, ‘Okay it doesn’t have to be a major label.’ There’s great music coming from indie acts.”

Matt Gary will be performing at the WGAR Country Jam on Saturday, August 6 at Black River Landing in Lorain, Ohio.
