Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts Release Debut Album

on

Already known for his music and live shows around Northeast Ohio, Ryan Humbert has recently started a new project that encompasses classic country & western music. The new group, Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts, hopes to appeal to those who long for the sound of country music of years ago.

The new quartet is composed of Humbert, lead guitarist Brian Poston, bassist Dan Nauss, and drummer Dylan Gomez. The band will release their first album today, Monday, June 20th, and will be playing shows throughout Northeast Ohio, including a date at On Tap in Medina on Friday, June 24th (6pm-9pm) and at Whiskey Ranch in Green on Saturday, June 25th (5pm-8pm).

“I’ve been threatening to make a classic-sounding country album for years,” said Humbert, “I’m glad I waited until now, because I got to record it with this incredibly talented group of musicians.”

Recorded at Crushtone Studios in Cleveland with award-winning engineer Jim Stewart in April of 2016. Originally meant to be a small set of demos, the group ended up recording ten songs in less than 24 hours. For the recording, The Shootouts were joined by Northeast Ohio music veterans Al Moss (pedal steel) and Bill Lestock (mandolin, violin) as well as Humbert’s longtime singing partner Emily Bates.

Along with their covers of classic country & western and honky tonk songs made famous by Mickey Newbury, Conway Twitty, Patsy Cline, and Eddy Arnold, the album also includes four original songs. Humbert’s songwriting skills are evident on songs like the steel guitar-laced “Lonely Never Lets Me Down” and the bootleg-whiskey barn burner “Rattlesnake Whiskey,” which follows the theme of the rest of the country standards on the album.

Along with the shows at On Tap and Whiskey Ranch, Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts will also play venues and special events in Kent, Mogadore, Canton, and Akron, including the City of Akron Summer Concert Series at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, the Kent Heritage Festival, the Stark County Fair, and others. Here is the track, “Make The World Go Away” being debuted exclusively with Cleveland Country Magazine.

“Make The World Go Away” – “It’s intimidating to try and tackle such a classic song like this, but I’ve always loved this one and really wanted to record it. Our version has a little late-night smokiness to it. My longtime backing vocalist Emily Bates and I sang this live together, just a few feet apart from each other. It’s such a beautiful, well-written tune and I hope we did it justice.” – Ryan Humbert
