William Michael Morgan Spins Traditional Sound on “Vinyl”

on

At just 24, William Michael Morgan embodies the sound and style of artists that were around long before he was even born. With his latest single “Vinyl,” he does it again. The title track from his debut album uses the medium as a way to confess his love for a girl that can easily be compared to the ‘vinyl’ spinning on the turntable.

The song was written by Carson Chamberlain, Ashley Gorley and Wade Kirby and features Morgan’s traditional vocals with some light percussion, pedal steel and acoustic guitar.

The idea for the song originally came about for the songwriters in 2013 or 2014, at a time when bro-country ruled the country airwaves and you were more likely to hear computerized drums instead of pedal steel. But, everything old is new again and with the resurgence of a more traditional sound by artists like Jon Pardi, Midland and Chris Stapleton the diversity of the country genre is alive and well.

“Everything doesn’t have to be new,” said songwriter Wade Kirby in a recent interview in Billboard (“Doin’ What She Likes,” “All Over the Road”). “There’s classic things that [still] work. I know that things change, but some of the nostalgia is cool to me.”

For Morgan the song not only fits right into his style of music, but is one that follows in the path of his first No. 1 hit, “I Met A Girl.” The singer has been waiting for the day the song would be released since his album dropped in September of 2016.

“It was my favorite song from day one,” he says. “I wasn’t getting off this record without releasing it.”

William Michael Morgan will be performing along with special guest Austin Burke on Friday, January 19 at Thirsty Cowboy in Medina. Tickets are $12 and are available at ThirstyCowboy.com.

William Michael Morgan’s “Vinyl” Lyrics:

If our love was a song girl / I’d play it all night long girl / I tell you what I’d put it on girl / I’d put it on vinyl / A little rock, a little Motown / You got that baby pull me close sound / You make the whole room go round and round like vinyl

Chorus:
What we got is a little old-fashioned / Baby you’re an instant classic / They don’t make ’em no more like you / So let the needle drop and play it all night / Might have a little static but it’s all right / Ain’t nothin gonna stop this groove

You know you got the real thing / The whole world oughta know your name / Like a band in the hall of fame / On vinyl / Go on and let your hair fall girl / Oh you’re beautiful you got it all girl / I’d hang your cover on the wall girl / Just like vinyl

Let the needle drop and play it all night / Might have a little static but it’s all right / Ain’t nothin gonna stop our groove no

If our love was a song girl / I’d play it all night long girl / I tell you what I’d put it on girl / I’d put it on vinyl

When you say my name it’s the sweetest sound / Aw girl you got me spinnin’ round and round like vinyl / Like vinyl / Ain’t nothin’ gonna stop this groove / No they don’t make ’em no more like you / Like vinyl
