It was a great start for the Country Music Hall of Fame member and recent Kennedy Center Honoree’s seven show season. “I see we got some cowboys out there tonight, I love it,” Strait gleamed midway through his setlist including so many of the icon’s 60 No. 1 hits. “I love seeing you cowboys out there because you bring the cowgirls with you; this song is for all you cowgirls,” he proclaimed before performing “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls” from his 2007 album, It Just Comes Natural.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of country music legend Merle Haggard on April 6, 2016, which would also have been his 89th birthday. Cody Johnson has been performing Haggard's songs for years, and just released a cover of his 1972 song, "Footlights." (Link to video in comments) "Merle Haggard's music has been the soundtrack of my life," Johnson shared in his post on social media. "I couldn’t think of a better way to honor him on his birthday than by sharing our version of “Footlights.” It’s out now. Hope we did it justice."
