Justin Moore returned to The Country Fest on Friday night and reminisced about his last visit to North Lawrence in 2017, on a line up that also included Granger Smith. He then went on to dedicate “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” to Smith who recently lost his son River at his home in Texas.

“The last time I played here, Granger Smith was here with us,” said Moore, “I will send this song out to [Smith] and his wife and his son who is up in heaven right now.”

The song became an emotional one before it even started and provided a reflective and respectful moment during Moore’s set.

Smith returned to the stage for the first time since his son’s death 18 days ago on Sunday (June 24) at the Country LakeShake in Chicago. The 39-year-old singer was showcasing a new tattoo of the name “River” on his forearm.

Granger Smith will be performing at the Lorain County Fair in Wellington, Ohio on Monday, August 19. Tickets are available through the Lorain County Fair website.
