Country Dancing

Eastern Ohio Dance Venues

on

My coverage of local Eastern Ohio dance venues continues this month with places that either rebranded themselves or will reopen soon to offer a dance floor for people to enjoy. As we all know, dancing is important and beneficial and the following bars/restaurants are doing their part to offer a fun environment, so please patronize them!!

The Club inside Yankee Lake Ballroom in Yankee Lake, Ohio was formerly called “Bootleggers” and most people still call it by that name. They are open on select Fridays, check the schedule on their website www.trucknight.com or find them on Facebook. Doors open at 8:30 pm, $5 cover charge, 21 & over, and a DJ plays requests until 12:30am. They have a massive dance floor with room for everyone from line dancers to freestylers to couples. They also have line dance lessons occasionally; I will be teaching there this month on March 8th.

Jewels Dance Hall and Saloon in Austinburg, Ohio is having a grand reopening on April 5th. The new owner, Debby, is very excited to breathe life back into this classic bar with a new food menu and affordable drink specials. They will have country bands on select weekends; their hours will be Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 2:30am. The cover charge for bands will usually be $5; however, they plan to book some bigger acts, so the cover will be $10 on those nights. The manager, Randi, stated they will permit 18 & over in so everyone can enjoy the food, bands, and dance floor.  They will keep a close eye on the under 21 crowd and hope everyone who enjoyed Jewels before will become ‘regulars’ again! Check their Facebook page for updates.

The Boot American Country Saloon in Geneva, Ohio offers Wednesday night line dance lessons with Dee Blansett from 7-9:30pm; all levels of dancers are welcome, $5 cover. One Friday night a month Dee also has a “Classic Country Night of Dancing” from 7:30-10:30pm, $5 cover which includes a lesson around 9 pm. The Boot has food specials and bands every weekend; check their website to see their menu and events: http://www.bootcountrysaloon.com

There are many other bars in our area that have a dance floor and book either DJ’s or country bands regularly. I chose to highlight the places whose dance floors are larger to offer enough space for a bigger crowd. The main concept to remember is to keep on dancing, no matter where you choose to go!

Dori Yez teaches Country Line Dancing in Ohio on Mondays at Rolling Mills Bar in Girard and is guest instructor occasionally on Wednesdays at Social 45 in Lisbon. On Thursdays Dori teaches at the Landmark Hotel in Mercer, PA. For more information on exactly when and where Dori is teaching check out her Facebook page.
