Throughout my years in the line dance world, I have been blessed to meet some fantastic people. Since I’m currently on a “leave of absence” from teaching while spending precious time with my grandson, I appreciate when I see someone from my past and have the time to catch up on their life. Recently, I attended the wedding of a couple who I have mentioned in previous articles, Jake and Jordan. Coincidentally, another attendee was a lady, Sachiko, whom I’ve known for several years from her taking my line dance classes at a few different locations. Sach (as most people call her) and I spent the afternoon chatting and were happy to witness the beautiful ceremony to begin the next chapter in their lives.
Several years ago, line dancing brought Jake and Jordan together. I first met Jake when I taught at the (former) Yankee Lake Bootleggers. The first time I taught with Jake as my DJ was at the (former) Landmark Hotel, which is where I met Jordan. They not only line danced, but also couple danced in a style that I can only describe as the “Kentuky Two Step.” And no, that isn’t a typo; to understand it, you must see them in action.
Over the next few years, I got to know both of them through teaching and dancing at various venues. When I was invited to their wedding, I secretly wondered who they would choose to be their DJ. After all, I feel the DJ is one of the most important decisions for any event! When I arrived at the picturesque location, imagine my surprise when I saw their choice; someone who I’ve known for many years, Randall Martin!
When Randy (what I have always called him) saw me, he was so excited that I was there and immediately gave me the biggest hug. I haven’t seen him for over two years, and a lot has happened in his life. I was delighted to hear about his next chapter as a recent newlywed; additionally, Randy is also the proud father of two! He was glowing when he spoke of his wife, son, and daughter; he definitely deserves all the happiness the world has to offer!
Randy, the consummate professional DJ, did a phenomenal job at this wedding. I have always felt that he was born to be a DJ, and he proved that once again by his innate sense of music and perfectly timed announcements. If you’re looking for a DJ, his company is Randall Martin Entertainment; you can find him on Facebook or his website: randallmartinent.com.
Here are three classic line dances that we did at the reception:
Good Time
Country Girl Shake
Lonely Drum
Thanks to Sach, Randy, Jake & Jordan for a wonderful time of remembering our pasts and looking forward to everyone’s next chapter.
Dori Yez will continue to write her monthly article here; and may also “guest instruct” at local venues/events!
