on

As fans watched the Super Bowl on Sunday (Feb 11) between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, a commercial spot announced that Beyonce would be releasing her follow-up to her 2022 album Renaissance.

Fans were thrilled to hear about the new project that will be released in March. The surprise continued as the new music would send the singer into a new musical direction. In anticipation of the album, two singles were released – “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em”. And, just as fans were settling in on the album announcement, they had another surprise. The two singles were released to the Country Music format. Many music directors and radio programmers are still digesting the news and figuring out what genre they actually belong.

Regardless of the debate over what genre to classify Beyonce’s new singles as, Apple Music is listing them as country. That enabled her to skyrocket up the US Country charts on the streaming platform and achieve a history-making achievement. With her songs sitting at both number one and number two on the chart she officially became the first black woman to ever top Apple Music’s Country chart.

Currently “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” are sitting at #1 and #2 on the iTunes Country Chart.

She also released both an acapella and instrumental version of “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which are also currently in the Top 5. They’ll both be included on her upcoming album, Renaissance: Act II:
