Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee is renaming its baseball field after one of the school’s most famous alumni, Morgan Wallen.

The name change was approved by a county naming committee on Friday, and the field will now be known as “Morgan Wallen Field.” The 2024 CMA Entertainer of the Year graduated from the school in 2011 and was a member of the state championship baseball team.

Gibbs Principal Jason Webster submitted the nomination to district officials in October, citing Wallen’s career accomplishments and numerous charitable contributions to the counties schools.

“Morgan played baseball at Gibbs during his time. He’s part of the 2010 state championship team and if you go to his concerts, you hear him speak fondly of his time with Gibbs Baseball coach Davis. He speaks very fondly of his time with coach and you see him wearing a Gibbs Eagles baseball jersey a lot of times,” said Webster.

Wallen donated more than $35,000 for improvements into Gibbs’ band program, core program and baseball program. He even released his album One Thing At A Time at the school in 2023.

“He’s been positive promoter of Gibbs and has given back throughout his time after high school,” added Webster. “We’re thankful for the things that he does, not just for Gibbs high school, but Knox County schools and the community at large. He’s a very giving person and we’re excited to do this for him.”

Wallen also donated over $140,000 for the nearby Gibbs Ruritan Park and $100,000 for the Jefferson County Baseball park.
