The Medina County Fair will again present their Fiddle Contest on Saturday, August 5. This year Cleveland Country Magazine is a sponsor of the event which takes place in the Pavilion at the fairgrounds.
The contest has five different classes which include competition for ages 11 and under; ages 12-17; ages 55 and over and an open class. This year the contest also presents a professional class. You can pre-register or you can register when you arrive at the fair and draw for playing positions in your class. Contestants of any age can compete in the open class, but contestants can only enter one class. The criteria for the contest are: a) play three tunes: hoe-down, waltz, tune of your choice with no show tunes or trick playing. (Tunes are not to last more than 1-1.5 minutes); b) Must play on standard, non-electrified instruments; c) One accompanist allowed.
The prizes for each class are as follows
11 and under Class: 1st $50.00; 2nd $35.00; 3rd $25.00 and 4th $15.00.
Ages 12-17 Class: 1st $75.00, 2nd $50.00, 3rd $20.00 and 4th $15.00.
55 and over Class: 1st $100.00, 2nd $75.00, 3rd $50.00 and 4th $25.00.
Open Class: 1st $125.00, 2nd $100.00, 3rd $75.00 and 4th $50.00.
Professional Class: 1st $125.00, 2nd $100.00, 3rd $75.00 and 4th $50.00.
