Since the band was first formed in 1981, Sawyer Brown has performed more than 4500 shows and they will continue to add to that number when they kick off their 2018 tour on January 6 at The Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield, Ohio. The band is definitely one of the more underrated groups from the 80’s and early 90’s with over fifty songs on the charts and CMA, ACM, and CMT awards on the shelf. The band was originally a part of Don King’s road band but when he stopped touring in 1981, the group decided to stay together and form Sawyer Brown, named after a street in Nashville. Hits such as “Some Girls Do,” “All These Years,” and “The Walk” are just a few songs that are bound to be on the set list and are all songs that any 80’s and 90’s country fanatic would know.
The songs mentioned are all part of an album that was released in 2008 called Best of Sawyer Brown that features ten of their top hits. This album is offered on streaming music services like Apple Music and Spotify which allows for younger generations of country fans to become familiar with Sawyer Brown hits that their parents grew up listening to. Perhaps one of the most famous Sawyer Brown songs is “The Race Is On” which was originally made a hit by country legend George Jones in 1964. Sawyer Brown covered and released it in 1989 as the lead single from their album The Boys Are Back and is one of the ten that were featured on the 2008 album. More recently, the band released their latest single “We Got the Night” which features Ohio native and lead singer Mark Miller’s unmistakable vocals. The single was produced in hopes to gain a new wave of younger fans and jump start a new chapter in the group’s journey.
Sawyer Brown will be performing at The Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield on Saturday, January 6 at 8pm. The show is all ages. Tickets are $15-$38 and are available through the Renaissance Theatre’s website.
