Neal McCoy Nears 1,000th Video of Reciting “Pledge of Allegiance”

on

For over two years now, Neal McCoy wakes up and puts his hand on his heart and recites the Pledge of Allegiance for his social media followers. If he’s at home in Longview, Texas he does it in front of his 30-foot flag pole with the stars and stripes waving proudly. If he’s on the road, no problem. He’s has the American flag painted on his bus along with the words to the pledge.

The act of showing his pride for his country started when he would write the pledge on his Facebook page everyday. The he decided to do the videos.

“I started because, as crazy as some of the presidential race had become and things that were being said on both sides, I thought: No matter what side of the aisle you’re on or how you feel about different things, we can love this country,” McCoy says. “And that’s really what it’s about.”

The video posts regularly have 100,000+ viewers and it just keeps building. McCoy often has other folks say the pledge with him in the videos, including other country singers like Charley Pride. Many others follow along at home and recite the pledge everyday while watching his videos.

“You know, my mother is from the Philippines,” McCoy says. “My father met her when he was in the Army. And my mom used to tell us as kids, ‘Look, y’all live in the greatest country on Earth, and y’all don’t understand that. I know it’s hard to believe, because it’s the only one you know.’

McCoy will recite the Pledge of Allegiance for the 1,000th time in a row on October 3. You can join him everyday on his Facebook page and recite the pledge along with him.
