Keith Urban’s Production Manager Dies After Fall at Bash on the Bay

Keith Urban’s tour production manager has died after after an accident at Bash on the Bay. The incident happened as the crew was preparing for Urban’s appearance at the country music festival at Put-In-Bay Airport. The 72-year-old Randy “Baja” Fletcher fell off of the stage and died the next day, Aug. 27.

Born in Virginia, he started his career in Virginia Beach with Bill Deal and the Rhondels. He then worked with ZZ Top during the 1970s and went on to work for a decade with Waylon Jennings. He also toured with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis and Brooks & Dunn.

He became the Country Music Association’s first Touring Lifetime Achievement Award winner in 2017.

Fletcher was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, and had two daughters.

Keith Urban described Fletcher as an “orbit of light” to Billboard magazine.

“I loved him,” Urban said. “We all loved him, and I’m grateful he chose us as his road family for 10 years.”
