on

Luke Combs loves to give back to his fans.

This past weekend (7/22/23) while performing at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, he invited 8-year-old Cooper Massengill to join him onstage to perform “Fast Car.”

“When I was walking up, everyone was shouting my name. It felt great,” said Cooper.

Cooper has been fighting leukemia since he was first diagnosed at 3-years-old. He has undergone many surgeries along the way.

“I had gone through a lot of stuff, a lot of surgeries,” Cooper said. Melissa Massengill says she’s proud of her son and that he was granted this opportunity through Make-A-Wish.

“It was a lot. To watch your child go through what he had to go through was unbelievable,” she said.

After the Make-A-Wish Foundation heard about Cooper’s battle, they decided decided to grant him one very big wish – to get to see his favorite singer in concert.

Less than a week after getting the call from Make-A-Wish, Cooper and his family were headed to Boston. They already knew that VIP tickets were waiting for them and knew they would meet Combs, but they didn’t know about anything else.

“Cooper’s wish was to meet Luke Combs. He had no idea that he was going to go on stage. His secret wish, within his wish, was to sing ‘Fast Car’ with him. And Luke Combs and his team made a lifetime memory for him,” said Sean Holleran, the CEO of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

After the song, the entire stadium chanted Cooper’s name again.

“It was great to see him get the wish he wanted after going through everything,” said Travis Massengill, Cooper’s father. “I was just amazed they could organize all that for him,” said Cooper’s mother.

The family, who were visibly emotional, were so thankful to Make-A-Wish and Combs for this moment. Something that Cooper said he will cherish for the rest of his life.couldn’t be more grateful. And Cooper said this is something he will cherish for life.

“They really came through for him and made his wish come through,” said Melissa Massengill.

The night was summed up by Cooper with, “Everybody doesn’t get a wish and be grateful if you get a wish.”
