The winners of the new artists categories for the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards have been announced. Midland is the New Vocal Group of the Year; Brett Young the New Male Vocalist of the Year and Lauren Alaina the New Female Vocalist of the Year. The wins come as the first-ever for all three of the artists.
The winners received a phone call with the news of their award from this year’s host, Reba McEntire and all of the acts will be performing on the show. In addition to their wins, both Alaina and Midland are nominated in other categories; Alaina with Kane Brown in the Vocal Event of the Year for “What Ifs” and Midland in Vocal Group of the Year, as well as Single Record of the Year for “Drinkin’ Problem.”
The ACM Awards will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 15th, at 8:00pm (ET)on CBS.
