Country Concert ’21 at Hickory Hills Celebrates 40th Anniversary

on

In 1970, Mike and Mary Jo Barhorst started an event that was far from what they could have ever imagined. This year, Country Concert at Hickory Hill Lakes in Fort Loramie plans to celebrate their 40th Anniversary with some of country music’s biggest stars and some of it’s newest.

The annual 3-day event has grown to become one of the largest country music events with crowds of up to 20,000 per day. The festival brings in concert fans from not only the U.S., but from all over the world with recent attendees traveling from locations including Europe, Canada and Australia

A little different from that first year when friends and family gathered for the Barhorst’s wedding anniversary to enjoy a barbecue and listen to the performances from regional musicians. Louise Mandrell was the headliner for the inaugural event that was open to the public for the first time in 1981. Since then, the concert has hosted some of the biggest names in country music, including Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynne, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire.

This summer’s lineup for Country Concert ’21 features the same headliners due to appear in 2020, before the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Scheduled headliners included Alan Jackson, Luke Combs and Jason Aldean. Other performers for the three-day event include Jon Pardi, Justin Moore, Neal McCoy, Lorrie Morgan, Jo Dee Messina, Deana Carter, HARDY, Riley Green, Cody Johnson and more.

Country Concert is about more than music and camping. The event also raises thousands of dollars each year to support area groups and organizations including the Ft. Loramie Fire Department and the American Red Cross.
