Country music singer Daryle Singletary died earlier this morning at his Nashville home at the age of 46. A report from one news source stated that he hasd a blood clot that caused his death.
Singletary, a native of Cairo, Georgia, had a string of hits that made their way into the top 40 of the Hot Country Songs charts five times, reaching number two with “I Let Her Lie” and “Amen Kind of Love”, and number four with “Too Much Fun.” Just last year, he released American Grandstand, a duet bluegrass album with Rhonda Vincent.
The singer still toured throughout the United States, playing his first show of 2018 on Friday and had shows scheduled for this week. He last appeared at Dusty Armadillo in Rootstown, Ohio in May of 2017. He also appeared at singer Mel Tillis’ public memorial on Jan. 31.
“We’ve been very fortunate to stay on the road, year in, year out,” Singletary recently stated in an interview. “I continue to work and continue to build a fan base. There are still people out there who want to hear traditional country music. I’ve been fortunate to be able to always keep it real and not have to compromise. I can’t ask for nothin’ better, I don’t guess.”
“I believe all of it is still a dream. I have been very fortunate to do [country music] for a living. It is a dream in itself.”
Singletary began his career as a southern gospel singer, often traveling with his parents while growing up. He cited country artists like George Jones, Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Randy Travis and Keith Whitley as big influences. A demo he cut for Travis eventually led to his commercial success.
The news was shared by music booking and promotions company McAlpin Entertainment in a Facebook post.
No news of Singletary’s death has come on his official social media pages, and his website appears to be down.
Daryle Singletary is survived by his wife, Holly, and four children. The fourth was Charlotte Rose, born to the singer and wife Holly in September 2014.
