Girls (or Guys) Night Out

on

For those of you who faithfully followed the Cleveland Country Magazine favorite local band contest between Julia Neville and Jessica Hannan, you know that Julia received more votes and won the spot to open for Jo Dee Messina at the Thirsty Cowboy on Saturday, September 28. Congratulations to Julia, whom I don’t personally know, and best of luck for a great show! Unfortunately, I won’t be there due to a previous class reunion commitment.

Like many band members who played in eastern Ohio at Yankee Lake Bootleggers where I previously taught line dance, that is where I first heard Jessica Hannan in December 2016. Evidently she liked the venue and dancers so much that when it was time to shoot her video for “Girls Night Out” in April 2017, she chose Bootleggers for that event.

The band and crew spent the entire day there, luckily I just had to show up shortly before the evening filming and teach Jessica’s “video girls” how to line dance. Considering the production crew wanted as many people as possible line dancing during filming, I chose one of the most popular dances the crowd knew that would fit to the tempo of Jessica’s song. After my quick line dance lesson with the video girls, other dancers began to surround them on the floor and the film crew took their places. Jessica and the band played the song several times so the camera people were able to get various shots throughout the venue. Although the line dancers had to continuously repeat the same dance, everyone seemed excited to get the chance to hopefully make it into the video directed by Brian Kuhn.

I haven’t watched Jessica’s video since it first came out, so once again seeing all the “regulars” who I used to teach and dance with definitely brought back some great Yankee Lake Bootleggers memories for me. It’s unfortunate that venue no longer draws big enough crowds to continue offering a fun dance-filled girls (or guys) night out!

Dori Yez teaches Country Line Dancing on Mondays at Rolling Mills Bar in Girard, Ohio and occasionally on Thursdays at the Landmark Hotel in Mercer, PA. For more information, check out their Facebook pages. Dori also teaches line dance at the Cortland Ohio SCOPE Center on Fridays.
