Name of the Band/Act: Coalie’s Run
When did band form: 2011
Members: Steve Flaughers – Lead Vocals; Jay “Uncle Jay” Wonkovich – Lead Guitar/Vocals; Todd “T-Bone” Baker – Rhythm Guitar/Vocals; Brian Ruven – Bass and Danny Wendell – Drums/Vocals.
About the band: Coalie’s Run has been out of the local Country Music scene for a couple of years. But after countless requests for them to get back together and perform, they decided to start a limited run of shows which started back in October.
The group first formed in 2011 when Flaughers and Wonkovich were playing shows and opening for acts like David Allan Coe and Ricochet. They wanted to add a little more to the band and start playing larger shows and began a search for players in Northeast Ohio. The group added some well seasoned players including Ruven on Bass, Baker on guitar and Wendell on drums.
Flaugher’s experience includes being named a regional finalist on the reality TV series Nashville Star, which also discovered talents like Miranda Lambert and Chris Young. His video for “Wish Upon You” was also in the finals for the CMT Music City Madness. Watch the video Here.
Wonkovich has been a part of the local music scene for decades, spending 19 years with the local country group The Curtis Brothers. He currently performs an acoustic solo act, “Uncle Jay” and with the Eagles tribute band, Out Of Eden. Wendell spent years performing with the local country singer Gary Allen and has performed with a number of other acts, most recently with Rukus.
Collectively Coalie’s Run played numerous shows together during their run opening for Joe Diffie, performing at the Summit County Fair, House of Blues, Rockin On The River and many more fairs and festivals around Northeast Ohio. They will be perform on Friday, November 24 at Thirsty Cowboy in Medina.
Why you should see their show: Coalie’s Run made a name for themselves by being a highly professional group on and off the stage. They are a Country Music band, but as they put it they are like “a box of chocolate” and you never know what you might hear at their show. One minute Wonkovich could be tearing you up with a sad country song and the next melting faces with a screaming guitar on some Pink Floyd. Then Flaughers will be twanging out a country tune, followed up with Baker taking it back with “Into The Mystic.” Coalie’s Run is an eclectic group of talent with tight vocals and great musicianship that can please almost any musical appetite.
