Name of the Band/Act: Kurt Freeman
When did band form: 2017
Members: Kurt Freeman – Vocals/Rhythm Guitar; Mike Pappas – Lead Guitar/Bass and Kevin Hannah – Drums.
About the band: Kurt Freeman had inspirations of performing and writing his own music ever since he was in high school, when he would get together with his friends to play the guitar and sing. The 25-year-old Independence native started going to open mic nights and eventually was approached by Mike Pappas and Kevin Hannah, who were running sound for one of those performances at Speakeasy in Cleveland.
The three have been working on new music and released the debut single, “Texas,” last November. The song was written by Freeman and produced by Pappas and Hannah, they also added some background vocals from Andy Fischer Price. Jim Stewart did some final engineering on the track at Superior Sound Recording in Cleveland.
The song really showcases Freeman’s unique bluesy and soulful voice on a song that has the sound of today’s country music. After listening to “Texas” it makes you want to hear more of the original music which has an authenticity that proves his love for the country genre.
You won’t have to wait too long to get another taste of the his upcoming debut EP. He will release the title track, “Beer Pressure” on April 13 and the complete project will be available in June.
Why you should see their show: Freeman may be new to the local country scene, but is already proving that he has the style and sound that should make him a standout in the area. His music has more of a contemporary country feel with influences of Luke Combs, Tyler Farr, & Chris Young. His professional approach and ability to find his own way to showcase his talent will be a welcome addition for NE Ohio country music fans and beyond.
