Ricky Skaggs to Perform at Kent State – Tuscarawas

Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder will make a rare Ohio stop at Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Jan. 6 at 7:30pm. The seven-time Grammy Award winning group, led by a 15-time Grammy Award winner, has also been named the Group of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association multiple times.

Skaggs, who first appeared on the country charts 50 years, was a mainstay in the 80’s, with a stretch of 13 songs released from 1981 through 1986 that produced thirteen hits – ten of those being #1’s.

His five decades of music has led him down the path of different genres, yet always staying true to his musical roots. His achievements include numerous awards, as well as, induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame, the National Fiddler Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.

In 2020 Skaggs was awarded the National Medal of Arts for his contributions to the American music industry.  As a master of the mandolin and fiddle, Skaggs creates and produces bluegrass music that helps to preserve the musical legacy of the most talented artists of his generation.
