Local Band Spotlight: Jacob Lones

on

Name of the Band/Act: Jacob Lones

When did band form: 2016

Members: Jacob Lones – Vocals/Acoustic Guitar/Lead Guitar; Luke Hurst – Lead Guitar; Hunter Staley – Bass and Wesley Reed – Drums.

About the band:  Jacob Lones originally formed his band when he was offered a spot to perform at Mitch Kirkpatrick’s BYOP video shoot concert in 2016. Lones was offered a spot to play an acoustic set, but wanted to offer a fuller sound. So, he put some guys together and they have been playing out ever since. Hurst has been a part of the band since the beginning and actually played drums until Reed joined the band a few months after they formed and Staley joined the group in March of this year. During their first full year the band played over 110 shows.

Though the band is only a little over a year old, Lones has been performing music his entire life – from Gospel to Bluegrass to Country. He writes his own material and released his first single, “Fence Row Kids” in October of 2016. In July of this year, along with the assistance of his producer Rusty Yanok of RTY Productions, he released his self-penned 6-song EP, Good Friends, Good Times and Moonshine. Lones tried to compile as many different songs on the project as possible, touching on everything from love and heart break, to family, to party songs. One of those turn it up style tracks, “Backroad Redemption” will be airing on local country stations this fall. Take a listen to the song below.

Since that first performance opening for Kirkpatrick, Lones and his band have performed at Logan Fairgrounds, Albany Fair, Utica Fair and recently won a fan contest to earn a spot opening the show for Carter Winter at Flannagan’s in Dublin, Ohio. The band also opened the show for Moccasin Creek and will do it again on October 6 at Venue 18 Entertainment Complex in Fostoria, Ohio.

Why you should see their show: Jacob Lones and the band enjoy putting on a big, high-energy show with smoke an lights, but are also extremely friendly and approachable when off stage and love to hang out with their fans at shows. The group plays covers that are powerful with guitar riffs similar to that of the style Jason Aldean or Brantley Gilbert. But, Lones has a more traditional sound with his originals and incorporates pedal steel, dobro and banjo into the music he was raised on. The band plays songs from many of today’s top country acts and everyone from George Strait to Johnny Cash and Luke Bryan to Cole Swindell, and still finds a little room for a Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams cover.
